Quest USS Enterprise

Brief:
a RTF foam model of the enterprise. OOP for a while now. I bought more for its looks than its ability to fly.

Construction:
The rocket is ready to fly with the exception of the parachute that needs to be added. As it's a Quest parachute, get rid of it and replace with a better parachute. Use an Estes at least.

The nose cone has a mass of over 2oz. That's half the mass of the rocket, and it needs the weight to be stable.

There are small clear fins at the back. These are tacked on with glue and the fins will pop off on hard landings.

The motor fits in into the middle of the rocket, the flames will damage the stickers and eventually get to the foam.

The parachute is a tight fit. An upgrade here to a mylar chute or to something similar would help. On cold days those plastic chutes will set.

Finishing:
The rocket itself is not great in its appearance. The stickers are awful, and after a few flights thay are peeling off. Some have already started to lift in the unopened package, but to be fair, the package is now 10 years old. However, as an interesting looking rocket and to a Star Trek fan, she's great

Flight and Recovery:
The flights aren't that bad. She boosts relatively straight, although she will roll a bit. During the coast phase she looks quite graceful as she goes through the air. Altitude is not overly high.

When things have not gone so well, such as the motor slipping its hook and the rocket nosing in hard, the rocket handles itself quite well. She actually bounces, and there was no damage. Other people have had less success.

Flight Rating: 3 out of 5

Summary:
This is not a rocket to get if you are looking for performance or for scale detail. But as a fun rocket that looks good on a pad and flies OK (every flight has you a little worried), this is alright. I have two: one flown and one in the packet.
