For a scratch built project, I purchased a Shockwave fiberglass 3" Von Karman nose cone.
I loved that it was all fiberglass and not coated with polyester gelcoat.
Pros: Great price!, quality product, easy to finish.
Cons: Maybe it is a con to some, there is no bulkplate included. That was fine by me! I prefer to use a loop of nylon or kevlar to attach the nose, rather than a bolt.
Finishing was easy I just washed and sanded it, and gave it several coats of primer followed by more sanding, red paint, more sanding, and finally some clear, followed by buffing.
I used this on a scratch built project. Here is the flight video:
Getting a hard bang on the Salt Flats didn't cause any trouble.
Shockwave makes a great product and it has a substantially lower cost than a filament wound model of the same specs.
