Brief
I enjoyed building and launching the 18mm version of the Tres, I just had to get the bigger 24 mm version as well.
Components
The components were sturdy. You do have to pay attention to the instructions and cut out the fin template patterns. Make sure the arrow aligns with the grain of the balsa wood.
Construction
The building process was straightforward. I painted the bigger kit to look identical to the 18mm version.
Finishing
I utilized Elmer's wood filler and when gluing the parts, I utilized CA for the placement of the parts, then Gorilla wood glue. After all the glue dried, I made the fillets with 5-minute epoxy.
After a lot of sanding, priming, and then the final paint finish, it looked perfect.
Flight
I utilized the 3 motor cluster clip whip sold by Rocketarium and the first launch utilized three D12-3 Estes motors.
Recovery
The baffle system is great and the rocket does not require recovery wadding when utilizing the baffle ejection.
The parachute deployed perfectly. Unfortunately, it landed in a tall tree and I was not able to recover it.
I am now building another one to replace the kit that was devoured by a Rocket Eating Tree.
Summary
The upscaled rocket is great and a definite crowd pleaser.
