Since getting my NAR Level 1 High Power Rocketry certification last year, I have been working on a rocket to attempt my Level 2 certification with. The rocket I chose was the Polecat Aerospace Black Brant III, with a 4" diameter body tube. I equipped it with dual Missileworks altimeters (RRC3 and RRC2+), OneBadHawk harnesses, Top Flite parachutes, and an Aeropack motor retainer. For the certification attempt, I used an Aerotech DMS J270W motor, with the deployment charge left in as a second backup to deploy the drogue parachute. The attempt was made at the Tri-Cities Rocketeers club near Pasco, WA. Dave King administered the NAR L2 written test, and he and Rich Harshberger RSO'd the rocket and witnessed the flight. After many months of learning the needed skills to set up a rocket with redundant electronics, acquiring special tools and black powder, testing the setup, and waiting out the weather, the time had come for me to fly my rocket with a J motor and attempt a Level 2 High Power Rocketry certification. Enjoy.
