Trip Barber (Person)

Arthur H. "Trip" Barber III graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a bachelor’s of science degree in aeronautics and astronautics. He received a master’s of science in electrical engineering (with distinction) and an additional subspecialty in weapons system engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School. He graduated from the Army War College and the MIT Seminar 21 Program in International Politics.

Barber's Navy career included command of the Spruance-class destroyer, USS Deyo, Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek, and Naval Station/Naval Air Station Norfolk. Barber spent eleven years in the Pentegon working on defense budget development and analysis and participating in Depart of Defence (DOD) program and strategy reviews.  Barber served as Executive Assistant to the Vice Chief of Naval Operations, and as Deputy Director of the Navy team for the 2001 Quadrennial Defense Review.

As a civilian, Barber continued working with the DOD and Navy.

Barber's Navy decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal in 2001, the Distinguished Civilian Service and Presidential Rank (Meritorious) awards in 2011, the Superior Civilian Service award in 2004, the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit (two awards), and the Meritorious Service Medal (three awards).

Barber is a member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and is the President of the National Association of Rocketry.
