Team Masten made their first official attempt for Level One of the Northrop Grumman Lunar Lander Challenge on Sep 16, 2009, making them just the third team to ever do so. Xombie (their rocket vehicle) remained in the air for 93 seconds, surpassing the required 90 seconds flight time for Level One. However, upon inspection of the vehicle after landing, Team Masten noticed a leak in the engine chamber. Rather than risk losing the vehicle, they decided to call it a day and will try again in their October windows. Their next attempt is scheduled for October 7-8, 2009.
