Brief:
A nice 3-finned, single-stage, streamer recovery rocket.
Construction:
This is an average low-power kit, with the Quest standard components.
(Kevlar®/Elastic shock cord, plastic recovery mounting tab, lightweight motor
retainer.) I thought the Kevlar® portion of the shock cord was a nice addition.
The measurements given on the packaging were not the same as those provided. I
found a variance of up to 2" on cords and streamer.
This kit built fairly easily. It would be a good second build for a new rocketeer. The engine mount slipped snugly into the body tube, giving me a good feeling that it's glued to stay. The only gotcha I really found was keeping the shock cord (tied to the engine mount) out of the way while finishing the build. A sharp hobby knife, razor blade is strongly recommended for notching the motor retainer ring.
Finishing:
Ahh the decals. Probably the only real challenge to building this kit. They
came on one white sheet, self-adhesive. They require cutting, no matter how you
slice it!
Construction Rating: 3 out of 5
Flight:
I've only gotten 2 flights on a Estes B6-4. It snapped a fin clean off on the
second flight. I'm not sure if it was due to the 2" I was shorted on the
streamer, the 10 mph winds, or just dumb luck. It was an easy fix, and
wind/weather agreeable I'll get it up a few more times soon. Recommended motors
A8-3, B6-4, C6-5. The two flights on the B6-4's were nice, clean, about perfect
height for visibility. The streamer recovery kept the ground chase to a
minimum. The longer hike for recovery was about 75 yards down range, due to the
wind after launch.
Recovery:
I'm not sure that the Kevlar® thread doesn't cause a bit of undue wear to the
top of the body tube, and I feel the rate of descent may be a little quick. If
a little time is taken to reinforce the tube, wear could be minimized, and a
full 24" streamer is recommended

Summary:
Pros: Kit went together fairly easily. Parts all fit. Cons: Decals, incorrect
lengths on cords/streamer.

(by Mike Salter - 01/14/03) Brief: A sleek, single stage rocket that is ideal for beginners. Construction: The kit came pre-cut fins, motor tube, motor hook, cardboard body tube, plastic nose cone, length of Kevlar ® , round elastic and streamer material. I found that this rocket went together easily and quickly. The instructions were good and this was the first kit I had ...
