Custom mod of ACME Spitfire for Break-away action. Fun build! Each section of the rocket "Breaks Apart" and is attached to a Kevlar line. I've also made it so that the launch rod fits right through the middle of the rocket rather than outside launch lugs/standoffs.
3/20/15 - Added Chenille Stem Wile E. Coyote as a finishing touch. Not bad for my first try at "pipe cleaner art" if I say so myself! :)

First test flight of Custom Break-apart ACME Spitifire. Ran out of C11s, so had to go for D12-3. Lift-off was absolutely beautiful and as straight as one could want. Ejection right at apogee (what a beautiful sight!) and rocket broke apart as hoped and started to descend nose first. There is a lot of weight in the forward section, so this was expected. Descent was at a good rate...maybe a tad faster than I'd like, but understandable given a pointed nose cone. Landed about 50ft from pad. Post-flight inspection shows fins on the landing side had ripped some of the paper shroud and was a bit lose. WIll need to either strengthen the shroud or tear apart and have TTWF (Through The Wall Fins) and/or may also add a small chute since there seems to be too much nose weight and a chute would allow the bottom section to land on the base first. Still love this rocket project!
