Aerotech Initiator

Flight

Wind cocked but then drifted back close to the pad. Nice flight if not too high. Probably close to the simmed altitude. Drilled delay to 6 seconds which was right on the nose. - F62-10 - Pence Indiana [More]

Quest Totally Tubular

Flight

The wind was really blowing hard and I went to my only rocket I had with me that had a streamer. Plus, tube fins tend to deal well with the wind. It did indeed put up a great flight. Altitude was really high for a B4. Would have been even higher with a 6-second delay. It was about out of gas when ... [More]

Estes Firehawk (2014)

Flight

Wind had really picked up so I switch to low power. County Line Rockets was there selling motors and I picked up a pack of B14-5. The Firehawk was the biggest 18mm rocket I had so I loaded it up to see what the B14 could do. It did get off the pad quickly but the altitude was anemic. I simmed it ... [More]

PML Bull Puppy 2.1

Flight

Great motor for this rocket. Windcocked a bit, but wind brought it back towards us. Missed landing in the road by about 3' so hit tall soft grass. Actually went higher than it simmed. - F67-6 - Pence Indiana [More]

Dragon Rocketry 3" Wolverine

Flight

Drilled to an 8-second delay, but it didn't matter as the motor Cato'ed. Burned through 2-3 inches from the rear closure. Mess report filed and I contacted Aerotech. The same is it was a Dr. Rocket casing that is difficult to replace. - H250-14 - Pence Indiana [More]

Sunward Interplanetary Shuttle

Flight

The fins warped on this rocket when I put sealer on the them. But I decided to fly it and see what happened. It was a bit squirrely but generally consistently headed up. Chute deployed nicely and it did not drift too far unlike other rockets I launched today. I guess I need to paint it now. - C5-3 ... [More]

Estes Leprechaun

Flight

Not as high as the Vector but still a nice straight flight. Got a small zipper. - 1/4A3-3 [More]

Squirrel Works Astrid

Flight

After some long retrievals, I went with an A motor. It was a low flight but still drifted a bit. - A8-3 - Ft. Harrison - Indy [More]

Estes Vector

Flight

Got pretty decent altitude on a 1/4A. Straight as an arrow. Streamer deployed at apogee and was recovered with no issue. - 1/4A3-3 - Ft. Harrison - Indy [More]

Estes Halley's Tail

Flight

Nice straight flight, but it drifted a long way. Recovered with no damage. - B4-4 - Ft. Harrison - Indy [More]

Estes Calypso (2006) (Kit)

Review

Estes Calypso (2006) The Calypso only appeared in the 1989 and 1990 Estes Catalog. Nevertheless, the kits show up for sale semi-regularly and can easily be cloned. While it is basically a 3-fin and a nose cone rocket, the addition of a boat-tail and sleek fins make this a good performer with ... [More]

New Way Xarconian Destroyer (Kit)

Review

New Way Xarconian Destroyer When New Way lost their source for square tubes, owner Rick Randol turned to cloning old Centuri and Estes kits. The Xarconian Destroyer is a complete but modern clone of the old Estes kit #1903.BT-55 I started with the motor mount. I notched the forward centering ring ... [More]

Loc/Precision R.A.M. (Kit)

Review

Loc/Precision R.A.M. I was browsing the Animal Works web site and noticed they had a Loc R.A.M. kit in stock. R.A.M. is an acronym for Rage Assault Missile. It is 43" tall. As usual, I started with the motor mount. I used T-88 epoxy to attach the three centering rings. The shock cord mount goes ... [More]

Aerospace Specialty Products Aerobee 100 Junior (Kit)

Review

Aerospace Specialty Products Aerobee 100 Junior The Aerobee 100, or Aerobee Junior, was first flown early in 1958. This vehicle was designed by Aerojet General to be an inexpensive rocket to fly payloads of 50 - 100 pounds up to 90 miles. Most of the 20 produced used a solid-fuel booster, but two ... [More]

Rocketerium Maxtermind is a Winner (Kit)

Review

Rocketerium Maxtermind is a Winner Rocketarium is known for their mid-power scale kits but this is one of their sport models with split fins. Rocketarium has great components and this kit is no exception. Construction was straight forward. I started with the motor mount I notched the forward ... [More]

Estes Pulsar (Kit)

Review

Estes Pulsar This is a 13mm minimum diameter rocket. I discovered this rocket when I set a goal of building all the rockets in the 1989 Estes Catalog. While not officially part of the Mini Brute series several rockets in the 1989 catalog fit perfectly with the other Mini Brutes. The Pulsar is one ... [More]

Estes Pro Series II Panavia (clone) (Kit)

Review

Estes Pro Series II Panavia (clone) The Panavia was a kit that was available briefly via the Estes web site. It was composed of left over parts from other Pro Series II kits. The Panavia used the same fins as the Argent. The Estes kits are almost never seen, but clone kits are available from Bad ... [More]

New Way Squareros (Kit)

Review

New Way Squareros A relatively new addition to the New Way group of square rockets. They may be square but they fly great. The standard finish makes a great looking pseudo-missile rocket. New Way doesn't give construction ratings but I would say this is a 1 and would make a good first kit. As is ... [More]

Estes Starbird (Kit)

Review

I'm always keeping an eye on eBay for out-of-production kits.  About a year ago I spotted an Estes Starbird kit.  It had been opened, which must have hurt interest as I was the only bidder.  All parts were accounted for and I was happy for my good fortune. While essentially a ... [More]
