This quick afternoon flight of my 2.5" upscale of the Estes Javelin nearly broke the sound barrier at Mach 0.9. The onboard altimeter recorded an altitude of 3,664 ft (1.1km) with a top speed of 691 mph (1,112 kph). As you can see in the video, a rocket going that high needs some sort of tracking because it's up-and-out and gone. It landed about 1,000 ft away on a day with light winds. Definitely a tracker and Chute Release made it retrievable. I might have to wait until next year to try for Mach 1.0 and/or a mile high flight. I'll use an onboard camera next time as well.
