Built during the summer of 2017, HYDRA was the spiritual successor to River City Rocketry's award winning 2017 NASA Student Launch "Typhon Heavy" rocket. Weighing in at 65 pounds and standing over 14 feet tall, HYDRA was designed to reach 10,000 feet of altitude and exceed velocities of 700 miles per hour. The design and manufacturing of the rocket was an exercise for the team in sensor controlled staging procedures and a practice run for second stage in-flight motor ignition. This snippet of our design and construction was filmed on Panasonic LUMIX G7 and Glidecam.
