Brief:
Well I had too much time on my hands and two Blue Ninja's kits .I threw away the plastic fins
and the bottom plastic parts, added some basswood delta3 modified fins and the XL BLUE NINJA was born.
Modifications:
First I sanded the nose cone and the couplers with 220 grit sandpaper then built my
motor mount attached the Kevlar®
let dry.
Next glue two long blue tubes and a short one with Gorilla super glue set down and make sure that it's even.
While that sets I cut my fins measured a seven by two inch rectangle and cut diagonal the cut edge is the root edge of the fin. I also attached match sticks to the root edge and cut two slots in the bottom tube. I had an angle pattern so I cut the angle on each end of the left over small tube then cut it in half.
Time to assemble. First mark the body tube for four fins then glue the motor mount in leaving a 1/4 past the body tube. Let dry then attach the basswood fins using the Estes fin guide and white Gorilla glue.
Now attach the tube fins with the white Gorilla glue. Let dry then fillet fins and tube fins and attach nose cone after you put about 1.5 ounces of modeling clay.
Construction:
Three tubes two long ones and one short one. I used basswood and one of the short tubes cut in half for tube fins and angled delta fins. I had a extra Bt-50 tube, two extra plywood centering CR50-60, a 2ft piece of Kevlar®, 2ft elastic and two inch long 1/4 launch lugs.
Threw the instructions away. I painted the lower portion and the nosecone black to keep the color scheme and added the decals.
Flight:
I used parachutes from both kits really give it a nice look on recovery.
I used a C11-3 then 2 D12-5 flights.
All three were straight and true.
Summary:
The pro is thatv it is different, flies nice and I built it.
