HOT and humid day at Bong Recreation area today. I ground tested my new Formula 98 (from Wildman) on the 19th and verified the ejection charges were perfect. But I ran into an electronics issue and wasn't able to fly on the 19th, so I came back for Suday's launch - and it was hot!! The RRC2L reported the temp at 103f on the pad.

The J540-P redline motor is one of my go-to motors for 4" fiberglass rockets as it has enough initial thrust to get the rocket off the pad, but it's still only a J so not too much altitude. Since this was my first flight of this rocket, an estimated apogee of 3650' sounded just about right for keeping the entire flight in sight.

The J540 did its job and the rocket left the pad at about 60fps. Apogee was reported at 3558(gps) and 3405(RRC2L) for an average of 3481, or just about 80' short of the RockSim prediction. Not bad for a shakedown flight! Apogee charge fired as expected and the rocket descended at 51fps under drogue. The slight breeze (4mph) blew the rocket back over to the south side of the pads where the main unfurled at 700' and landed the rocket at a soft 21fps. Recover was easy, about 500' off the D pads.

NOTE: For some odd reason, the motor must be entered with a delay. This was a plugged motor, with electronic dual deploy so there was no delay used.
