Flight Log - 2023-04-08 - David Deavours's Concept 98

Standard dual deployment  I added an eyebolt at the tip of the nosecone to anchor the harness and open some extra space for the main and a tracker.

Flight Date: 2023-04-08
Rocket Name: Concept 98
Flyer's Name: David Deavours
Motors: J540R
Expected Altitude: 3,565 Feet
Wind Speed: 5.00 mph
Launch Site: Richard Bong Recreation Area
Actual Altitude: 3,753 Feet

The Concept 98 flies at Bong again!!  Another J540R for the 4" fiberglass rocket.  The pad weight was right at 14lbs for the redline motor to lift.  The weather was beautiful for early April in southern Wisconsin and the wind was low (est. 5-9mph).  The rocket was loaded on the rail, and it was angled ever so slightly into the wind as you can see in the photo.  The launch was perfect - the redline motor came up to pressure quickly after the Wildman Big-un started the motor.  At apogee of 3571' (3700' GPS) the rocket arced into the wind as the drogue charge fired.  From apogee to about 700', when the main deployed, the rocket drifted back in the direction of the launch.  But when the main deployed and the rocket drifted down at a leisurely 19fps, the wind blew the rocket back to within 200' of the launch rail for an easy recover just by the away cell.  It was not THE closest to the pad, but a super-easy recovery.
