A caliper is a device used to measure the distance between two opposing sides of an object.  The word caliper is often mistakenly used in place of the word Caliber. It is an easy mistake to make since a caliper is a tool that may be used to measure the diameter of a rocket and the diameter defines the caliber of the rocket.
